About the Program
Trade Team PEI is a joint agreement between the Province of Prince Edward Island and the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA) and other departments and agencies, offering export assistance to active and potential exporters. In the interest of growing the number of exporting companies in Prince Edward Island, as well as the volume of exports from the province, Trade Team PEI has developed a comprehensive Grow Export Program to provide support, tools and resources to interested companies through a customized program – from self-assessment to in-market experience.
The first step in the program is to complete an export diagnostic self-assessment and have a follow-up interview with a Trade Team PEI representative to review company needs and appropriate workshop modules and program elements. The outcome of the Diagnostic and the Follow-Up Interview is a recommended Grow Export Workplan that is developed through discussion and yields a mutually agreeable set of next steps. The Workplan matches the company with relevant workshops based on their competencies and areas for development. There are six half-day workshop modules and a company may be matched with one or all of the workshops in their Workplan.
The six workshops are intended as an introduction to the following areas and to provide the foundation and resources for a company to discover or deepen their understanding in:
- Core Capacity for Export;
- Export Market Analysis;
- International Trade Law;
- Export Finance;
- Export Logistics & Transportation; and
- Pricing Strategies for Export
Beyond the workshops, the program also offers a mentoring component to program participants. The overall objective of the program is for companies to improve their capacity to export and come out of the program with the basis of an export plan and the tools to go forward. The final program components offer an in-market experience for the company such as the At the Border familiarization tour initiative to experience first-hand the realities of getting goods across the border or priority participation in an upcoming trade mission. Participants who successfully complete the Self-Assessment, Interview and Workplan components will be recognized as PEI Export Ready.
